Happy New Year!
Dave and Christie Lee Family 2008
As we get older, the time just goes by faster. It’s amazing to think that 2008 is pretty much over and we’ll be in the last year of this decade soon. It’s also amazing to think that Dave is nearly 30 and Christie will be there in a few years as well. This year has been a great year and we have been blessed again and again. So, if you continue to read, you can see what has been going on this year. We’ll start with some general news and information from the family and then we’ll move on to the more specifics.
This year’s highlight for the family was the vacation we took in July. We bought tickets and made plans to go to California and see Disneyland, Sea World, and the San Diego Zoo. We planned this trip with our friends, Mike and Tiffany Torrey and their two kids. We left a week before they did and spent a week in Turlock, CA and attended a wedding at the Oakland Temple for one of Christie’s cousins. It was a lot of fun. Later we left and made it to Disneyland. After 2 ½ days of Disneyland, we left for San Diego and Sea World, San Diego Zoo and the beach. Dave’s favorite part was probably the AWESOME Mexican food at Old Town in San Diego. This trip was long and fun and we are so glad we went. It was a lot of fun to share it with our friends. But, next time we’d probably plan not to be gone so long, by the end of the trip, we were all ready to be home.
We also took a short vacation to Torrey, Utah during spring break. Mike’s family lives down there (and coincidently, their last name is Torrey). We stayed in the cabins his parents rent out and did some great hiking and sight seeing. The summer is a lot of fun as Dave is off of work, and so far hasn’t had to find work during the summer, and we can do a lot of fun outdoor stuff. This summer we weren’t quite as active as the summer before but we did a few hikes with our friends, Mike and Lexie Lantz and their 3 kids. Looking back (there’s probably a bunch of stuff I am forgetting, but it’s probably chronicled on the blog) it was a very fun year.
This year was also a year of when we saw the worst of the world. The first Sunday of the year our neighbor, Kristy Ragsdale was murdered by her husband in our church parking lot. It was a traumatic experience for nearly everyone in the neighborhood and we are glad to know that this case has been pretty much wrapped up. Even though this was a tragedy we never could have imagined, we were strengthened in our faith. That morning Dave was trying to get everything ready and together for our Primary class that we teach. For some reason, the printer would not work. I had never had a problem with it (and haven’t had one since). This problem with the printer caused us to be about 20-30 minutes late to church and when we pulled into the parking lot, we were told happened and to go home. I don’t know what we would’ve seen happened, as the murder was in the direct area where we typically park, but I do know that we were held back and that Heavenly Father blessed our family that day.
I may think of other things later, but for now we’ll move to the individual stuff.
Dave and Christie:
Christie accomplished many things year and among the highlights was her running the Salt Lake City Marathon. Christie did the half marathon and did really well. We were so proud of her and all of the hard work she put into the race. Even though she is glad she did the race, she is not so sure she would do it again, but we’ll see. Christie has also been busy mastering her crocheting skills while juggling kids around. When school started in August, Christie began to drive to Orem from Lehi at least twice a day and sometimes more. It’s a lot of driving and she’ll be happy when she doesn’t have to drive so much anymore. Christie’s major work right now is caring for the baby in her tummy. The little boy who has yet to be named will be coming in April and all of the kids are excited to see their new little brother. Christie received a new calling this year and she is an Activities Day leader. She helps the girls, 8-11, with activities twice a month and help them earn their Faith in God award. She enjoys going and has fun with all of the girls. Christie took her second snowboarding trip in January. She (and Dave) went up to Beaver mountain is Mike Torrey, who took his 4th grade class up the mountain. We were officially chaperones, but all we had to do is help the kids get their gear on and then we hit the hills. She had a lot of fun and (after the pregnancy this year) will go again.
Dave finished his first official year of teaching school at Canyon View and began year two this year. He misses his first year students and still keeps in contact with some of them. He couldn’t have asked for a better year for teaching. The administration, faculty, and students were all incredible. This year he has a new principal and vice-principal, who he also enjoys. This year has been a bit harder as the students are different and it took a little longer for him to “get” them. What made this year harder as well was that Dave seems to be getting sick more often. Dave has not taken a sick day for the half a year he worked two year ago or last year, but so far this year has 2 and ½. He has caught the flu, the cold, the stomach flu and just been miserable for what seems like most of the year. Dave also participated in the Salt Lake City Marathon, but as a bike tour participant. Dave was able to ride the Marathon route on his bike with thousands of other riders. It was so much fun and he can’t wait to do it again the coming year. Dave also picked up mountain biking again after a long lay-off. He had so much fun this summer and is excited to hit even more trails this next summer.
Zoe turned six this year and started kindergarten at Orchard Elementary, right next to Dave’s school. Her teacher, Mrs. Jones does a great job with her and Zoe loves it. She has met many friends and enjoys doing her homework. We were worried about her getting bored because she already knows most of what she was going to learn this year (on the pre-test the teacher gives she scored about 95%, on the pre-test.) but she loves to go and interact with everyone. She gets glowing reports from her teacher and comes home, proud to tell us that she has never had her name written on the board. Zoe also experienced her first team sport, soccer. Her team won every game but one and she scored her first goal. She had so much fun playing soccer, but I think she liked having a lot of friends more. Zoe learned her first song on piano and is excited to start taking lessons. This summer Zoe also began to ride her bike without training wheels. She needs a little more practice, but she is coming along well.
Macy turned 4 this year and is still as energetic and resourceful as always. She was extremely happy to start the 4 year old preschool and get to do some of the fun things Zoe got to do last year. She also has loved being part of gymnastics and looks forward to her class. She is already a pro and (not surprisingly) loves to play on the bars. Macy has begun to learn to read. She has wanted to be able to read her own stories for awhile now and we are (slowly) getting her to a point where she can. Macy loves primary and is so excited that she gets to go with her sister Zoe. Typically Zoe will walk her to the class and sit down with her. Macy also tried to ride without training wheels, but she isn’t quite ready and after one day decided she wanted her training wheels back on. Toward the end of the year, Macy came down with a high fever and we took her into the urgent care. They couldn’t find anything and so we brought her home. Her fever rose again (104 degrees) and we took her into her pediatrician. It took him awhile to find out what was wrong as well, but finally she was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection and after a few days on antibiotics, she is back to her normal self.
Logan has so much personality. He will do something and laugh and then look at you and ask, is that funny? You have to say yes, or he’ll keep asking you. Logan is happy to be big boy and will tell us he won’t cry cause he’s a big boy (especially when we are dropping him off at nursery). He has started to potty train a little, but he is not very consistent yet. And just recently, he has started to sleep on his big boy bed. He hasn’t come out yet and we are very grateful for that. Logan loves cars, bikes, building things and playing with his sisters, which means he likes to play pretend, dress-up, and Barbies. We just have to convince him he’s the prince, not the princess. Boy, does he need a brother!
Well, I’m sure we’ve missed some exciting and definitely some of the funnier moments of the year, but one of my goals for this year is to keep a better journal and hopefully next year’s edition of this will be much better written (since I won’t have to stretch my mind for things and then be tired of thinking of it and then not care how well it is written, etc.) and more enjoyable to read. We hope you all are doing well and are happy. Our faith in God has moved us through this year and we hope he continues to be a strong presence in our family’s lives. We love you and happy holidays!
Merry Christmas
